Tentative schedule: 10 days, May 25 to June 3, 2010
This intensive, 10-day program offers the opportunity to explore the natural wonders of the tropics and to earn one study abroad credit in a field setting in Belize, Central America. A wildlife sanctuary, a barrier island marine station, ancient Maya sites, and mountain areas will serve as your classrooms as you learn about the landforms, geology and rich cultural history of the area. Topics in environmental conservation, geography, culture and history will come alive as you paddle in tropical rivers, snorkel in the largest barrier reef in the Western hemisphere, and hike in the mountains with CCP faculty and local experts. You will experience the cultural riches of the Creole, Maya, Mestizo, and Garifuna peoples and see how the challenges of sustainable development, globalization & trade, preservation of ancient Maya sites, and fisheries and forest management are being addressed.

Program cost: $600, including in-country program expenses, housing and food. Students pay CCP tuition and other expenses separately.
